CA MII customers understand the importance of having the MII address space active to ensure data integrity is maintained across the MIIplex lpars. However, maintenance windows and unplanned outages do occur. During these times, even the best recovery or planning can create a scenario where a data integrity exposure can arise while the MII address space is being recycled and synchronized.

Beginning at release 11.9, customers can take advantage of the CA MIM Restart Manager. This feature provides the capability to restart CA MIM components automatically after a failure, or to perform a planned restart on a single system. When used with CA MII, the restart manager maintains the integrity of global resources throughout the process. Local ENQ/DEQ activity is suspended for managed QNAMEs from the instant a failure is detected or a SHUTDOWN RESTART command is issued. Activity remains suspended until the restart is complete and normal global operation resumes.

Implementation is easy, but does require a global outage as the program name will be changed.

Additional information can be found in the CA MIM release 11.9 Install Guide, under the section titled: 'Restart Manager Usage'.
