    Kurt,

Unit SAS release 8.0 they use non standard allocation methods ans Disk could not backup or archive them. With SAS 8.1 they went to IBM standard allocation methods nad all Disk functions work correctly with them.

    Hello Kurt,

CA Disk does not back up all parts of SAS multi-volume data sets created by SAS release 8.1 and earlier because SAS used a non-standard allocation method which caused the FMT1 on each volume to look like a stand-alone data set. Newer releases of SAS follow IBM standards for multi-volume data sets and these data sets can be successfully processed by BACKUP, BACKUPCC, ARCHIVE and RESTORE.

    Hope that answer your question.

    Kurt,

You can archive SAS multi-volume data sets with a standard CA Disk ARCHIVE job if the data sets have been processed by SAS release 8.0 with current maintenance for SAS applied or if the data sets have been processes with a release of SAS higher than 8.0.  SAS release 8.0 with current SAS maintenance applied and higher releases of SAS correct the old SASE problem of not using standard IBM allocation methods for multi-volume data sets.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for your answers. It looks like the description in the manual is not actual or I have an older Version.

    Thanks, Kurt

    Kurt,

Your question prompted a review of the manual.  The info in the current manual is ouit-of-date.  A documentation update has been rewritten, reviewed, and submitted to the tech writers.

Thanks for asking the question and helping us keep our manual up to date.
