RTCI 6.3 fails to install

    Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with all public updates before it became EOL. 

    SQL 2005 SP4 on-box. 

    NS 6.0 SP3 R13

    Console 6.5 + updates

    Task Server 6.0 + updates

    AD Connector 6.1 + update

     

    The above is my base snapshot. 

     

    On top of the base snapshot, I initally installed CMS L1 successfully, and first ran into this issue when I went to install CMS L2. 

    I found https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/troubleshooting-altiris-manageability-toolkit-vpro-technology-part-5-real-time-console-infr which unfortuantely did not help. 

     

    I then reverted back to my bas snapshot and just tried instaling RTCI on its own, but it still failed. 

     

    I cam honestly say that this is the first time I have had problems installing RTCI 6.x throughout all the years of supporting this product. 

     

    It starts the install but then stops for an unknown reason and rolls back.

    Hi Igor,

    The application event log just recorded the start and stop msi install action, with a 1603 error. 

    Verbose altiris logging didn't capture anything. 

    The attached setup file also contains the 1603 error. 

    RTCI was downloaded from SolutionSam a few days ago.

    Hi Scott,

    have you successfully installed RTCI or nothing helps and still same problem occurs?

    Hi Scott,

    one thing that I see in attached msi log, is that there is a message:

    • MsiProvideAssembly is returning: 1607

    I've searched similar discussions about this msi message when people had failed installation of .NET3.0 with error code 1603 and they have found that IIS was a root cause of such failed installation (try to search some threads in google using this message MsiProvideAssembly is returning: 1607)

    Try to stop IIS and manually install RTCI

    Hi Scott,

    • What about to try to install it manually with enabled verbose msi logging to see what is a problem?
    • "Event Viewer" logs also don't have useful information about this installation failure?
