    Neel

each Switch must have FID, by default this is set to 128

the word FID = Fabric ID cannot be changed , removed, disabled or whatever.

    Neel,

--->>>But am asking for an change in just switch name.

Switchname can be changed at any time.

Again, both are mandatory, neitehr FID nor Switchname can be removed deleted, disabled or whatever.

    Hi, Again,

When i change switch name, FID128 will not disappear. My concern is here to remove FID 128 from the switch name !?

Are we sure, we can not have swithname without FID128 ?

    Regards
    Neel

    Hello,

as Antonio said, there is no such a thing. The FID dispalyed in CLI is to define context of the switch. In case you are using VF this attribute will define on which VF switch are you performing actions.

I don't understand why you are focusing on such a dummy thing like FID in switch name . Why do you need only switch name in CLI ?

    Hi Neel,

I believe that you are asking about removing FID128 from the prompt in CLI. If that is what you're referring to, FID128 is not part of the switch name- the switch name is test123. FID128 is added to the prompt so to indicate which FID is currently active. For example, if you were to issue "setcontext 50" (and FID50 already exists)- rather than
    test123:FID128:admin>

    you would see

    test123:FID50:admin>

If you are not using Virtual Fabrics then disable the feature and the FID will stop showing in the switch PS1 output.  If you are using Virtual Fabrics then there is no way to change the PS1 not to display the FID.

    Hy Neel,
maybe we do have a misunderstanding here.
Your switchname is only what is displayed from the 'switchname' command.
The FID 128 is not part of the switchname and is only displayed if VF mode is enabled.
So if you are creating a new virtual switch and doing a setcontext to the new FID of the virtual switch you will see that the FID is changing to that was used in setcontext command.
But what is your problem with the FID displayed in the prompt ?
