What is the maximum distance supported by a OM3 FC cable ?

As per the "SAN Distance Extension Reference" Operating Distance (m) of 0.5 – 500 is supported by  400 (MB/Sec), is it still the same ? Also, do we need a change in SFP from Short wave to long wave  in this case..?

    @Manoj singh

As a rue of thumb you can use the following table.  Mileage may vary depending on the damping / number of patches, etc.

    Protocol
    (FC)

    OM2

    50µ
    (500 mHz)
    Multimode

    OM3

    50µ
    (2000 mHz)
    Multimode

    OM4

    50µ
    (4700 mHz)
    Multimode

Thanks so much for the info Thomas,

In case there is a distance for 500 meters between the Brocade Switch and a Array, Ofcourse we need to use LW SFP, how does it work, do we need a change in Cable type here ?

yes, you need to use single mode (9 µ)  cables and long wave SFPs.   Check with your array vendor if LW SFPs are supported for the front end ports of the array.  If not, you'd have to place another switch in shorter distance to the array.

@Scared Lemur    What are you not satisfied with? Any other information you'd need?
