Brocade Fabric Vision can not send mail

  • 1.  Brocade Fabric Vision can not send mail

    Does anyone know how to fix email notificaiton configuration for Fabric Vision on Brocade? I already configured email, dns and relay server on san switch. When i test send mail from switch, I see below log:
    2019/09/03-21:18:01, [MAPS-1206], 1091, CHASSIS, INFO, DS_6505B, A MAPS email notification sent from the switch to  test@vcb.com.vn could not be delivered to Email server.

    @Phan Cong Tinh, did you check the following:

    - Log on to the switch as root and:
       - ping the dns server
       - ping the smtp relay host  (by hostname)

    - from another host try to telnet to the relay hosts port 25, for example:   telnet smtprelay 25
    . is the relay host configured to accept emails from the switches IP address?

    Which FOS version are you using?

    I log on to the switch with admin account
    - ping the dns server succeffully.
    - ping the smtp relay host  (by hostname): relay host does not have hostname, ít only have ip. Ping to smtp relay host by IP is ok. 
    - telnet smtprelay 25 ís ok.
    - The relay host was configured to accept emails from the switches IP.

    @Phan Cong Tinh  so what FOS version are you having?   What do you use for your testmail, CLI, BNA?   Any firewalls in between the switches and the SMTP relay host?  ​

    @Thomas Scheld  I use FOS version v8.0.2d and use CLI to test send mail. There is no firewall between switch and SMTP relay host.
    I use the another switch to test send mail OK but this switch did not send successfully.

    Also may be worth to verify if the SMTP relay requires any specific security settings.

    Q.:

    is the email Server with the Domain "vcb.com.vn" in-house Server ?
    is a mx-record configured ?

    login as root and try issue this command:

    root> echo "test" |sendmail -v recipient_email_address@your.domain.com

    post the output

    and Finally, is the switch licensed for MAPS / Fabric Vision ? what is the exact FOS version ?

    Thanks for reply.
    1. Yes, we using in house mail server. But internal, we using 2 relay server. And in relayconfig we configuration with 1 relay server and relay domain is vcb.com.vn
    2. Currenty, we have a lots of DS6505B sw inside our site. In May, we deployed 2 DS6505 and magically, it can send email notification after few days. Now we deploy 2 new DS6505 in same site, same configuration but we can not send email.
    Compare between 2 supportshow from new and old switch we found 1 think.
    In new switch,
    we got this

    In my opinion, new switch did not record his hostname, my lotus node mail server do not receive information about switch hostname. that why can not send email.

    @Phan Cong Tinh:  are all switches on the same FOS level?     If so, please check if the "hostname"  and "chasissname"  setting ​are the same and both configured.

    yes, we compare 2 switch with same FOS 8.0.1d. How to config hostname? is this different with switchname?

    All switches on the same FOS level (v8.0.2d). I checked and see that the "hostname" and "chasissname" setting ​are difference. Now I changed them to the same name. I test resend mail again but the recipient have not received mail.

    Hi Tinh,

    Could you confirm Fabric Vision license is configured properly?
    Depending on what you were emailing with Fabric Watch, you will need a Fabric Vision license (paid) for the MAPS feature.
    Up to SAN switch, e-mail notification settings were made on Fabric Watch, but after 7.4 Fabric Watch has been abolished and it seems to be set in MAPS.

    To send e-mail, the domain name system (DNS) server configuration has to be specified. Refer to the
    Fabric OS Command Reference for information on using the dnsconfig command.

    I cleared existing DNS, relay and email configuration and then I setup them again with root account (I did not use admin account to setup these configuration as I did before). After that, the switch can send mail successfully.

    Hi Guys

    I am seeing the same issue on FOS 8.2.1a with SN6500B switches.

    Does this mean that maps and Fabric vision can only be configured under the root account ?
    I would have thought an admin account should be sufficient or at the very least if configuring under the admin account is an issue the switch should error out ?

    Root account is currently disabled so if I don't have to use it prefer not to .

    Appreciate any thoughts
