After updating my Java to the latest version, Version 8 Update 5. I cannot get SwitchExplorer Web Tools to access my Brocade 300 Switches. After logging in I get an error: Exception encountered during initialization: com.brocade.web.secsan.SecureSANException: white space not allowed I updated the firmware to 6.4.3f hoping it would help, but no luck.

I mentioned yesterday I'd look into this.  Here is the feedback from our Senior Product Manager:

"There have been a few inquiries on this topic. This is an issue with the current Java 8 update 25, which causes backward compatibility with Java 7 based programs. Oracle is going to fix this in Java 8 update 40 scheduled in March 2015. At the meantime, customers can use BNA to launch WebTools or use Java 7 as workarounds."

Now I know March is a bit of a stretch to wait for a fix by Oracle, but this is on them to fix.  Support for v8 is coming but isn't due for some time.

    What's BNA?

I'm so very sick of dealing with this.

    Dear Brocade -

    STOP USING JAVA.

    IT SUCKS.

I absultutley agree, find a solution to this JAVA Crap, enough, i have spend the entire day trying to get webtools to work FOS 7.3.0c with windows java 7.60, 7.71, 8.31.

Earlier coment said that 7.29 and above will find the v8 issue , welll it has not.

I tried using 7.6 version and have same issue, i have case opened, so lets see, but this sucks big time

    Mark,

I have really bad java issue ( webtools not connecting) with FOS 7.3.0c & all java versions 7.6,7.71,8.25 and 8.31 so it has not been fixed, this is really bad way to have the customer experiance for Brocade, the other gripe i have with Brocade is that it does not allow access to its KB even if we own several Brocade swithes but our support is with major storage vendor.

That to me is not good

Is there no fix to this or do we need to just junk all our Brocade switches and buy another manufactures products?

suggesting going back to insecure versions of software is simply not an option for many people.

I use Windows 7 with Java 7.71 now. (downgrade from Java 8.x)

Then i cange one Paramter in the security file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\lib\security\java.security).

    I change     jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, RSA keySize < 256      to 256 from 2048.

I worked well with a lot of switches.

I was having the same 'white space not allowed' issue and downgraded from jre8u25 to jre7u71.  But when I launch the switch explorer I'm told I don't have the correct version of Java installed and I'm taken directly to the Oracle web page to install jre8u25 again.  I can't seem to win.  Any thoughts?

    Sorry doesn't work. :-(

Starts the application and I get until the login screen. After login it's the same error again: SecureSANException: white space not allowed...

What works for me is a little XP-Mode VM with Java7u40. That's my precious. Works on any brocade 300 with any FW from 6.4.x to 7.3.x

It's not just a brocade issue. Similar problems with many other vendors and tools, that use Java.

It might have become safer now - but it's almost unusable. A real PITA

    Please Brocade drop java!

Since Java 7u50 , there's a problem with accessing gui on Brocade switches.

Brocade FOS bases on Linux same like VMware vCenter Web client ,

    Question:

    >>> Why can't Brocade drop Java and create own Web client  like VMware did ???

I found a way that works well on my Windows 8 system.  I have the latest Java 1.8 installed and Java 1.7.0_75 installed in parallel.  Java 1.8 is the default java that my system uses, but I found a way to force the Brocade Web Tools to use Java 1.7.

The basic procedure is to download the jnlp file from the switch and modify it to require Java 1.7.  Also, verify that the java runtime 1.7 is added and enabled in the java control panel.

In your jnlp file.  Change the line that starts with

    To

Then save that jnlp file and double click it.  Use your saved jnlp file whenever you need to admin the switch.

    I have 6 FC switches.

    2 Brocade 510, type 66.1

    2 Brocade 5610, type 109.1

2 Brocade in IBM BladeChasis H, type 73.6 I don't recall what model that translates to

All are running FoS 7.3.0b.  I only get the white space error an the fc switches that are in the blade chassis.  I am running jre 8.40.  All switches work if i go back to jre 7.80

I have no idea why 4 switches work, and 2 do not.  I was about to install 7.3.1a, but looks like some are experiencing the same issue with that FoS as well

    Hi all,

I battled with this issue ever since Java 7 was upgraded from release 25 to release 40, where the big security shake-up took place. I've managed to get by with Java 7 release 25 up until now but there comes a point where you simply have to install version 8 for other things to work. I came up with a simple get-around which may not be for everyone.

We have two remaining Brocade 4100 (v6.4.3f3) and an 200e (v6.2.2) switch. When launching switchexplorer you can save rather than execute the html script on the switch. If you then text edit the html you will likely see two lines that start with:

The plus sign tells the script to run any version of Java from 6 upwards, so if you have version 8 installed it will use it. My get-around was to install Java 7 release 25 and modify the html to be:

I then log into the switches by executing the modified html rather than the switchexplorer html. By doing this I can install Java 8 happily for all my other requriements, whilst still forcing the Brocade log in to use version 7 which I leave at release 25.

In my case I also forced execution of the html using the Java 7 version of JAVAWS.EXE, such as:

    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaws.exe" "C:\SCRIPTS\BrocadeSwitch1.html"

Another thing to note is that installing version 8 doesn't necessarily update JAVA.EXE, JAVAW.EXE & JAVAWS.EXE in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder. I had to overwrite them with versions from C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_51\bin to ensure that Java 8 was the default version for everyting but my Brocade switches.

It's November 11, 2015 and none of the mentioned options is working for me.

I've tried the java.security change and running javaws from the command line.

The *ONLY* way I've been able to get to the Web Tools is by using Java 1.6 on an old Server 2003 VM still lingering for a LoB-specific app.

This is pretty furstrating - Java wants us to update because their product is so flawed that we can't access older systems?

    CRAZY!!!

I'm not sure if you are saying it's working for you or it's not. If you are looking for a working JRE then use Java 7, update 76. That worked for me after a lot of troubleshooting, but I did have to remove ALL Java versions from my computer and install the older one first, get the web tools working, then you can install Java 8 later to also have on your computer for other applications requiring newer. But DO NOT remove the older version even after that.

I was initially running Java Version 8 Update 66 and it was giving me hell to get into my brocade switch, on the other hand it worked fine with an identical switch - exactly the same even at firmware level.

    What I did was:

1.) I uninstalled all kinds of java from my computer (I had Version 6, 7 , 8 with various updates)

    2.) Rebooted my machine

3.) Downloaded and installed Java 7 with update 71 (Make sure it is x86)

    4.) Rebooted my machine

    5.) Probelm solved

See attachment below to see my problem exactly, this would occur after typing in my logon credentials for the switch.

I have also found that if I use the following URL in my browser (Firefox) it will work.

    http://

The first time you try, the small window pops up asking if I want to do this for all files of this type (JNLP).  (See attached image)

    • Select "Open with Java Web Start Launcher"
    • Check-mark the box next to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on"

The rest of the switches will now open Switch Explorer without the prompt.

I then manually created bookmarks for each of my switches. Problem solved.

    I am Using:

    Windows 7

    Java 8 u101 (32 bit)

    Firefox 48
