HPE Discover 2019
by AJ Casamento, 06/3/2019
The month of June marks the beginning of Summer, bringing with it the beautiful weather, the possibility of a Summer vacation (if, as my Grandmother used to say, “The good Lord willing and the creek doesn’t rise”), and for the last umpteen years, it means I make get to make another trip to Las Vegas for HPE Discover. And, as you all know, nothing beats Las Vegas in June with the possible exception of Las Vegas in July.
As many of you know my employer of 21 years, Brocade, is now fully-integrated into Broadcom Inc. company. Brocade has been the supplier of the B-series Fibre Channel switch products to HPE since 1999 making it one of the longest running SAN partnerships and ecosystems in the industry. Brocade has been an ardent supporter and sponsor of HPE Discover for as long as I can remember and each year when we renew our sponsorship it means I’ll soon be seeing colleagues, customers, and partners in one of the premier technology events of the year. The HPE Discover experience has become a mainstay of my summer event calendar. Discover brings with it a forum for customers, partners, and sponsors alike to come together and share what’s new and what works in the world of high-tech.
This summer promises to deliver the most important and certainly the largest HPE Discover in memory. If you are a regular attendee like me (in either the EMEA or Americas iteration of the show), you likely know that for the first time in “forever” HPE Discover will be a global event, bringing in customers, partners, and sponsors from around the world to descend upon the Venetian/Palazzo Sand Convention Center to showcase new wares, learn about new technology, exchange ideas, and strengthen partnerships and further the business of information technology around the world.
“HPE Discover is 3 days of action-packed activity,” according to HPE’s event website, where attendees are given the chance to “Transform, Network, Learn, and “Celebrate.” (“Network” is my favorite part as I personally look forward to resuming acquaintances from past events, seeing how customers are embracing new technologies, and learning what other technology suppliers have in store).
A lot has changed in the last year for Brocade or as we are formally known, “Brocade Storage Networking a Broadcom Inc. company. Yes, it’s a mouth full. We’ve spent the last year working on new products and solutions, we’ve announced new platforms, and industry-changing innovations, all with the mindset of improving the lives of our customers and advancing our mission of “Connecting Everything.”
I’ll be speaking again this year in the Transformation Zone Theater and look forward to showcasing Brocade’s new advancements in SAN automation and management that simplify common tasks like monitoring, provisioning, and taking inventory of SAN devices. I’ll also talk about how technologies like NVMe and widespread adoption of flash storage mean HPE B-series Gen 6 Fibre Channel will continue to be the defacto standard for customers in the data center. And I’m extremely excited to talk about our next generation management platform, SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View which is designed to drive efficiency and productivity for IT administrators by giving them insights and visibility to troubleshoot and correct problems before they impact business operations and stability. If you are interested in hearing the full story, drop in on my session which is Tuesday, June 18 @ 1PM, Theater 4, Session ID T9672.
Lastly, if it hasn’t been made clear already, there is a lot for us to talk about. We hope you’ll swing by our booth, # 216 during the show and talk to our subject matter experts. Be sure to ask for a demo or a whiteboard session. We’ll be doing deep-dive 1:1 sessions at the booth on the topics I’m covering at a high-level during my speaking slot, so if you want to see a demo of our automation capabilities, or understand how NVMe is going to impact the data center, or to learn about SAN modernization, please come and see us. While you are at it, grab your complimentary SAN Automation for Dummies or NVMe over Fibre Channel for Dummies books (everyone needs light reading for the flight home) while supplies last.

I look forward to seeing you at the show. I look forward to discussing all the great, new technology that our industry churns out, year after year, after year. And, like I said at the beginning of this blog, June every year, after year, @ Discover is when I look forward to it the most.
