Tech Tip - NFA: System Status shows "SNMP service errors" with "CA SystemEDGE" installed on NFA servers

Oct 10, 2014 06:59 AM

RA/NFA 9.x

NFA shows Watchdog SNMP "service errors"  under "Administration - System Status".

CA SystemEDGE is installed on the NFA appliances.

====================    SOLUTION   ======================

SysEdge uses port 161 by default, which RA/NFA needs for the Watchdog service.

You need to reconfigure the SysEDGE agent to use a non default port with below steps:

  1. Stop the SystemEDGE service
  2. Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features
  3. Select CA SystemEDGE Core
  4. Click on Change
  5. Click on Next
  6. Select Upgrade or Reinstall
  7. SystemEDGE SNMP Port Number
  8. Change the port to 1691
  9. Click on Next
  10. Click on Next (Start After Install)
  11. Click on Reinstall button

There may also be some way to set this by default on deployment of the agents, but it would probably best to check with SysEDGE support for best practices on that.

Alternatively, you can disabled or uninstall the CA SystemEDGE agents and enable/start the standard windows SNMP service.
