Struts2 field pack

I am interested in the URL nameformatter for the struts2 agent extension.
The default Struts monitoring that comes with Java agents is for Struts 1.x.
Struts 2 changed starting with 2.3.16, and moreso with 2.5.x.

Are there any customization options for the Struts2 field pack / extension?
Customer is experiencing metric explosion in PROD environment due to struts 2 "resource path" expansion.
I instructed customer to disable struts 2 extension in PROD and try to replicate via Load testing so we can determine the correct configuration.
I am hoping there might be some trick to "normalize" the resource paths like we do for SQL and URL groupings.
Finally, in the event that a code change is the only solution, is the extension "supported"? Or would I need to "dust off" my java coding tools?
