CA Spectrum: Java Support

Nov 08, 2018 09:19 AM

Dear Spectrum Community Users,

We have received multiple queries and questions from our customers regarding clarification of Java support in CA Spectrum. In this post we want to clarify and share the plan around CA Spectrum support of Java version.

Java Support

CA Technologies has a corporate wide agreement for Java distribution and support with Oracle covering all current and prior Java releases.  Oracle would support only Java 8 and 11 officially, Java 9 and 10 are already EOL or EOS.

The next target for CA Spectrum is to move to Java 11. Since Java 11 is it in early stages and new in the market we must wait until it stabilizes to adopt for CA Spectrum.

Java Web start

Oracle announced in March 2018 that Java 11 will not allow Java Web Start (JNLP) and applets anymore. However, we have already started testing with Java and are planning do few changes, like adding own installer for OneClick client as “Java Web start” is obsolete from Java 11.

By end of this calendar year, we will communicate our plan to field and customers.

Java Certificate Expiry

CA Spectrum release 10.1.0 we time stamp our JAR files. So even if the certificate has expired you should not be locked out of OneClick as the certificate was valid at the time the JAR files were time stamped.

The Java certificate is scheduled to be updated for Spectrum 10.3.1 which is tentatively planned to be released before the end of this calendar year.

CA Spectrum product team is committed to customer success and will ensure quality support and services.

Thank you,

CA Spectrum Product Team

Hi ian.robathan100

We have not charged anything additional to Spectrum customers in past. Be assured we won't charge customers in future as well.

Thanks,

Nagesh

Hi Nagesh_Jaiswal is this directly related to the announcement below that Java will be charged for ?

and what do you envisage the impact of this will be ?

Hi lilah

That is true. We are working on removing the Corba dependency from Java (by including Java Corba into Visibroker). It will be available in the coming release of Visibroker.

Thanks,

Nagesh

It looks like CORBA is being removed from Java 11 as well.
