Project Management Enhancements in Jazz (15.4.1)

User Feedback Enhancements in Jazz (15.4.1)

CA PPM Jazz release or otherwise called service pack 15.4.1, is as fantastic as its name. It contains some new features into it, which will be great to improve new user experience.

The list of features is as follows:

  1.      Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse related enhancements
  2.      Project Management enhancements
  3.      User Feedback enhancements
  4.      Top Down Planning (Roadmapping enhancements)

The detailing is as following:

Top Down Planning (Roadmapping enhancements)

  •      Targets (in grid-layout)
  •      Side-by-side scenario comparisons (in timeline layout)
  •      Import roadmap items into projects
  •      Link projects to existing roadmap items
  •      Sync roadmap items with Projects

Roadmapping Enhancements:

  •     Targets (in grid-layout)

Targets can be shown in the Grid Layout by selecting the highlighted check box or can be hidden by deselecting the same.

Number of targets can be chosen from the list:

Different filters can be used to see the different targets changing their color according to the values selected from the ‘In Plan’ column.

CA plans to grow this even more to make it more powerful for the users.

  •     Side-by-side scenario comparisons (in timeline layout)

Different scenarios can be compared as following:

The brighter color is of the scenario that is being compared (The POR here). The faded/lighter color is for the scenario that is used for comparison (The Initial Plan here).

The comparison view:

The following image shows an item for which there is no faded item in the Initial Plan. It signifies that this item was not part of the Initial Plan and was introduced later.

If the user wants to see what is not in the POR, which was in the Initial Plan, following action can be taken:

It will then take the user to following screen:

  •     Import roadmap items into projects

This is one of the most awaited features in New UX for Roadmaps.

However, the import job is something which is not at its best when it comes to performance. CA is still working on it.

  •     Link projects to existing roadmap items

If any roadmap item is created and there is no project linked with it. We can go and select the project to link with this. The next time, syncing will be done, all the underlying project data will be available in the roadmap.

The linked to column contains the project name, which is a direct link to the project.

In the project also, there is a link to come back to the roadmap.

  •     Sync roadmap items with Projects

The roadmap items can be synced using the ‘Sync Linked Items’ action on the roadmap as following.

The different options for syncing are:

  •     Clipping:

There is one more feature of Clipping, which will be evolved further in next releases. It is to clip and unclip the metrics to roadmap.

Stay tuned for further series.....
