Tech Tip - VMware API Data Adapter VM Guest OS Name

Oct 31, 2017 12:38 PM

Issue: The current version of the VMware API data adapter gets an incorrect VM Guest Operating System name for some Windows Server types.

Symptom: VMware guests are showing the Operation System as names like 'windows7Server64Guest' instead of 'Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit)'

Fix: Edit the hyp_vmware_api.xml file in the <Data Manager/Capacity Command Center Install Root>\ApacheTomcat\webapps\DM\classes\' folder and find/replace the following text: ".guestId" with ".guestFullName" and save the file.

The next data Load and Migrate will update the OS with the correct name.

Would recommend this step prior to editing the XML file.

1.  Copy the existing data file

            hyp_vmware_api.xml

    to

            hyp_vmware_api_backup.xml

as a backup copy, just incase there is an error when you test the change.
