  • 1.  selecting multiple projects in Rally at a time

We are looking to select multiple projects at one time in our portfolio view for Timeline or Release planning views. Ask here is to be able to select multiple projects at a time in Rally. We want to select more than one Project, right now I can only select one project at a time and render the timeline or release view at the portfolio level for that one selected project.

More context around integrated roadmaps, there seems to be a need to better understand the work across all teams.  There is a huge effort that my leadership is in the middle of right now to understand work in our projects and other critical teams' projects and gauge their roadmap timelines and release planning.

    Hi Shagor,

Rally's project model is a hierarchical model. This means we organize projects (teams) in a hierarchy, then we view items in that hierarchical manner. This includes the Timeline page. So, for example: lets say you have Team A , then underneath you have teams B and C, then under B you have D and under C you have E .... in this situation depending on the project level you're querying, you can choose to include down projects (or up projects) and you'll get information accordingly. So, for example if you are looking at level A and selecting 'children project scope' then you'll see information from all these projects underneath A.

This applies to the Timeline page. Also there you can get information from a number of teams AS LONG AS they are in the same hierarchy.
So, if your teams have a common ancestor (some higher up joint project parent) then if a user will go to that higher up project, scope down then the Timeline will include items from all these projects underneath.

But, again, this will behave this way for a hierarchy.

If your teams are not part of the same hierarchy (so there isn't a joint parent higher up for all of them) - then you won't be able to join them under the same view. In this case, you can restructure your projects to reorganize them under a joint parent if you still need this joint view.  Keep in mind that reorganizing teams in hierarchies is intended also for point rolle-ups, and in general to track progress of these teams together as a unit, not only for the Timeline page. If this is going to be a better model for you - then you may want to think reorganizing your teams in this way.

If you are uncertain - it may be worthwhile for you to discuss with your SE (that is a Broadcom Rally Solution Engineer assigned to your account).

I hope this helped, please let us know.

    Thanks,
    Sagi
