  • 1.  IM - Mask an email

    Hi Experts,

Is there a way to mask an email in database so that when PROD data is refreshed, IM will not send the emails.
Customer is planning to upgrade their database, after the upgrade activity, we want to make sure the email not be sent out if we refreshed the data.

Appreciate any kind advise on this.

    Thank you,
    Atifah

    Hi Atifah

Can you please add more information on this use case?
Normally the email is only stored in the user store (which could be an LDAP store or Database).
What is the nature of the refresh in question and which specific emails you would not want to send?

    Thank you
    Rinat

    Hi Rinat,

After upgrade the database, when the production data is refreshed, will there any email trigger define on DB level for default email templates? If yes, is there any way to mask it or disable it? if we disable, will it give any impact in the production flow?

    Thank you for your advise.

    Regards,
    Atifah

    Hello Atifah

When you say "upgrade the database" - are you referring to the actual database (MSSQL / Oracle) or Identity Manager itself?

In general, we configure email to trigger for a certain task / event  for a specific execution / approval / completion. There are no generic emails being triggered as soon as the application starts up.

Can you confirm the nature of the upgrade - what exactly is being upgraded?
Also, are you referring to workflow emails?

    Thank you
    Rinat

    Hi Rinat,

Customers want to upgrade their database to Oracle 19c. They used custom email notification and default email templates in IM. We understand that for custom notification, we able to disable it through admin console. However, for the default email templates, will it trigger any email at DB level?

    Thank you,
    Atifah

    Hello Atifah

    Many thanks for your confirmation.
DB upgrade, as such, would not trigger any emails. This would be just like any other restart for IM - by default, IM should not send any email during application restart.

For general reference,  if you would like to disable all email functionality for a certain duration, you could always update the mail server hostname in your application (to a non existing one) so it cannot be reached. For further information, please see here https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/symantec-security-software/identity-security/identity-manager/14-4/user-console-help/email-notifications/configure-smtp-settings-for-the-application-server.html

    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Rinat
