Does anyone know the logic of the Iteration drop-down?

Today is the 31st of Jan 2023 and this is what I see:

PS: sorry I created this a open-ended discussion instead of a question but I don't know how to delete it or change the type.

From my experience, the Iteration drop-down appears to list Iterations that are 1. defined for the currently selected Project and 2. whose State is set to "Planning" or "Committed" (omitting Iterations whose State is set to "Accepted"), regardless of the dates of the Iterations. The Iterations are then listed in reverse chronological order.

    Thanks @Matt Seitz.
That makes sense but we have many other iterations after T15. If they appear in reverse chronological order, why wouldn't the others, which are newer, appear at the top?
It seems like it shows the current iteration at the bottom and 5 iterations after that. I just wanted to confirm that that's the logic.

Interesting. I added a few more iterations so I have a total of 10 iterations either in Planning or Committed. On my User Stories page (Plan->User Stories), the Iteration drop-down only displays 7 of the iterations.

But if I enter part of the name of the Iterations into the search box, it displays all 10 of the matching iterations.

I'm attaching screen captures to show what I'm seeing.

Thanks Matt. It seems that there is a pattern.

in my environment, it shows 6 iterations:

Note: all the iterations prior to T10 are already accepted.

and when I type something, it shows 17 iterations

which are all non-accepted iterations in our workspace that meet the searching criterion.
