  • 1.  Backup of $U uprocs/sessions/tasks

    Posted Nov 02, 2022 07:50 PM
    Hello,

We are at V6.10.91.  We had an issue with all our uprocs on one of production AIX nodes where the paths were changed by a program.  First of all, how can I verify if we are backing up these uprocs/tasks/sessions?  Is there an option to set it up in the UVC console node settings?

Then, how can we restore the backed up uprocs, so that it goes back to the previous setup?

Thanks in advance for your help.
    Gerry

Sorry if I can't find a discussion on this, but if someone can kindly assist me, I appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

Fortunately  $U has all its varibles stored internally so you can sun a uproc and $U will echo out all of its locations. In windows this would be SET in Unix ENV.  Using this you will be able to at least see where the $U foldrs are located then check your backups.

$U also has an inbuilt backup with a correspondin restore which will backup what you need, it is also online (though the backup requires a split second of quiet time in order to complete).

A seperate backup folder can be specified in the command.  It is in the command manual but the syntax is below.
Backup syntax below, the backup will create 2 folders with a timestamp, one has a X in its name for the data objects. The important switch is the ALL parameter as that also gets the Business views too which is nice.

    • Run a backup - this can also be put into a uproc and scheduled as it is online
    $UXEXE/uxbck UNI EXP ALL DIR=<backup_dir>

    • To restore from a backup
    - disable $U
    - load the $U environment - (in the event of a total loss of env then install a base node before restoring data otherwise unable to load the $U env)
    - run command $UXEXE/unirestore -s -b <path to backup>
-run this command twice once for objects then again for data structures (directory with the X in its name)
to restore BVs in addition to Uprocs

The restore is fairly quick too, it does rely on restoring to the same node not to a different one.

    Hi,

    To add some more...

    1. Backup/(restore) are low level product activity. It almost completly dependant of the node architecture. I activated it daily

    2. Reason why a little maintenance session launched regularly is particularly interresting.
Output can be product level (but independant) or XML.
Somehow using some portable informations are easyier to use. The rebuild can be very fast (arround 5 6 minutes , installation included). The only data you loose is the history of the node. I use this daily
Do you have this maintenance session running on your node(s) ?

    3. The third method is extraction done directly on the Univiewer side (UVMS command) to extract data from the DUAS remotly (XML). It's interresting to seperate the product and system backup solution / policy / disabled
Just warn you about the traffic... I use this weekly
This method is very powerfull because .... If you use Business Views... ALL the BV dependant and sub componants are extracted to the XML.
It's a very good solution to treat obsolescence too

    thanks to hear u.
    regards
    eric
