    Hi,

I am trying to install additional (latest) policy server in linux machine where there is an existing policy server which is older version. I am using new user to install it but getting some error.

Can we install multiple SM policy servers in a single machine i.e. linux.

    Thanks.

    Hello Gaurav,

On Linux/UNIX box it should be ok to just install multiple SMPS versions in separate directories. For the actual installation time error, please set the LAX_DEBUG environment variable to FILE (or TRUE) and then launch the installer again as that would show you the DEBUG output of the install time problems.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

    Hi Manjari and Gaurav,

Installation of multiple Policy Server on Linux / Unix goes out of support.

Even if you can install many instances from different versions, you won't be able to run all of

them at the same time because of temporary files that Policy Server writes and uses in /tmp

directory. Those filenames aren't configurable and will be overwritten by different

    instances.

You might ask the product to be enhanced to get the possibility to install

and run several Policy Servers on the same OS :

    Hi Patrick/Manjari,

We chose to do this in a same OS to minimize impact and risks on our existing applications and we want to use the same infrastructure. Once the new version is ready we will stop the older version of SMPS.

As you said we can install multiple SMPS but only one policy server up and run at a time. I am getting below message after providing the path of JRE. It's showing the existing PS path.

    Required variables not found.

Please source the environment scripts before running the Installation Wizard

Hi, It could be the ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file causing this problem.

The installer has to determine if this is a fresh installation or an upgrade.

By looking up the ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file, the installer can determine if an existing product exist.

That will then allow it to go the upgrade process.

If it detects there is an existing product and decided it is an upgrade, it has to find environment variable to locate the existing installation folder.

The ".com.zerog.registry.xml" file used to be created under the user's home folder but now it is created in a common location such as "/var/.com.zerog.registry.xml" so it is likely this is the problem.

You can try renaming the "/var/.com.zerog.registry.xml" file (or look up if there are other files with same filename) and try the installation again.

Then it should go into fresh install procedure.
