  • 1.  How to improve CA Spectrum 10.1 performance

    Posted Feb 07, 2017 09:01 PM

    Hello everyone

In a distributed environment of CA Spectrum 10.1.1 with one SS and OneClick server with Linux Red Hat 6.8 32GB RAM and 8 CPUs Xeon, some times the performance in the SS is very high and the searches, discoveries and online backups are not executed.

This is a new implementation with 187 devices but some devices send a lot of traps.

    Some anomalies are:

    • No alarms are generated.
    • No events are generated.
    • It is not possible to discover devices.
    • Spectrum does not show a fault.

    Attached images:

    The CPU works very high.

    CPU Performance

Sometimes the alarm "A TRAP STORM HAS BEEN DETECTED"appears

When I turn off the SS it stays in the process "Stopping CORBA communications".

What is the total amount of traps that Spectrum 10 supports?

Is it possible to configure Spectrum to support more traps?

    I would appreciate your help.

Please open a case with our support team.  This may possibly be due to an issue we’ve seen lately with the SNMP stack.  We are in the process of finalizing a patch and getting a tech doc done.

We will need you to run the perfcollector9 script from a bash shell.  Once it’s complete, please upload the /Performance/results.tar.gz file to the case.

The other thing it might be is the duplicate JuniperSlot issue:

    http://www.ca.com/us/support/ca-support-online/product-content/knowledgebase-articles/tec1666174.aspx

Spectrum can handle hundreds of traps/sec sustained but there is “trap storm detection” so that if a device sends 20 traps/sec for 5 consecutive seconds, Spectrum will generate the trap storm alarm and stop processing the traps until the storm stops…

    Cheers

    Hi Jason

    Sorry for late reply.

Perfect, Where can I download the Perfcollector9 script?

    Thank you very much.

The script ships with Spectrum and is in the SPECROOT directory.  If you run it on the MLS and do not specify any servers, it will gather info from all SpectroSERVERs.  IE:

    ./perfCollector9

If you need/want to run it on just 1 SS, just run it on that SS and specify the machinename.  IE:

    ./perfCollector9 spectrumSS1

Once complete, there will be a /Performance/results.tar.gz file that we will need.

    Thanks!
