AWI v12.1 added some capabilities that had been missing from v12.0. (See: Java UI features that are missing from AWI v12.0.) Version 12.2 did not introduce significant changes.

Here are the features of the Java User Interface that are still missing from from the Automic Web Interface as of v12.2.

    Hi Mike,

I am using Automic Web Interface 12.0.1.HF02-402 currently with an AE version of 12.0.1+build.632

Can I upgrade to Automic Web Interface 12.1.1 HF3 and if yes, is there anything which I need to keep in mind or change in the existing set up.

    TIA
    SHANI

I would like to see Variable Picker added to the AWI. Not sure if this falls under script editor improvements.

    11.2 Docu example: Variable Picker

Ive got a case open with support where they attached it to a problem but I cannot seem to find it after the migration. Once I have this problem I'll update this post.

We already reported the missing "variable picker" to Automic.

"Workaround" was to use $&+CTRL-SPACE to open up the auto completion. All available variables are shown there - however without any description.

The "Replace" function (right click on object > Replace) is also missing in AWI.

Currently no feedback regarding a target version

The "Print" function is missing completely.

We also have found missing JAVA UI features (and unpleasantries) in AWI 12.1 (12.1.0.GA01-dev-feature-release/12.1-66009):

    • The Process-Monitoring-Widget has no display of selection and filters in the bottom line, unlike the Java UI.
    • The Process-Monitoring-Widget has no option to logically link archive key filters (AND or OR).
    • If the execution statistics of a workflow are opened from the Process-Monitoring-Widget, it is always "unfolded". It is also displayed in a hierarchy view. In Java UI, however, only the statistics of the workflow (without subtasks) are displayed.
    • The runtime displays in AWI are displayed left-justified instead of right-justified.
    • If you copy the details of a task into a file, they are not clearly arranged.
    • Execute once: The entry of a desired start time is only possible in the AWI if the calendar next to the Date/Time field is opened.
    • If you want to expand an include within the script of an object in the script editor, a new dialog opens. This dialog is often too small and cannot be resized directly. Only when you click the button in the upper right corner to enlarge it, the object opens in a new window, which can also change in size. And if you now have includes in includes...
    • Opening the execution statistics from a dashboard opens a new tab and inevitably switches from the Dashboard view to the Process Monitoring part. After closing the statistics, the view remains in Process Monitoring. It must then be switched back to the Home/Dashboard view manually.

    Hi all,

I have also found a few things that are missing in AWI 12.1 which are available in JAVA UI:

Administration Perspective (System Overview in JAVA UI):

    Missing columns:

    B.01, B.10 and B.60

    Role

    Net Area

    MQ-set (own) and MQ-set (active)

Right-click a Server Process and select "Change Server mode to..." is not available in AWI

  • 10.  Re: Java UI features that are missing from AWI v12.1

    Posted 05-18-2018 10:29 AM

The columns B.01, B.10, B.60, Net Area and Role are hidden by default. You can insert them by clicking on the down-arrow at the right side and select them.

The menu commands Change Server Mode to ... and so on are also available. Please be aware that they are not available for the PWP and the WPs with the roles O and R. But for all other WPs they are available.

I've got a few items that we've also noticed are gone from the AWI that were in the Java client:

    • The "Search for Usage", in the java client would highlight where in the found locations the item was used at - highlighting the schedule line(s), highlighting the object in a workflow, etc. We did find a workaround for this in workflows, and I suppose you can also use the normal web browser search for other locations, but it is not as friendly.
    • When monitoring workflows, it is no longer as easy to see what server/device the steps are running on. You have to show the "details" pane and scroll down within it to see where the job step is running. It used to be shown on the object itself.
    • I have been unable to locate whether or not it is still possible to deactivate an item in a currently running schedule using the schedule monitor. We used to be able to right click the item, show its properties and uncheck the "active" box to deactivate the item for the rest of the day only. It would then show up with the pencil graphic next to the clock if I recall when monitoring active schedules I've been told about the "modify" lock/unlock that is on the upper left of the schedule monitor. I'm not sure how I missed that.

    Hello,

We're currently upgrading our UC4 system from V9 to V12.

An issue I've noticed in AWI (V12.2.1) is that for any new jobs that are added to workflows, within the 'Time & Dependencies' tab of the job 'properties' pane, under Dependencies the 'Execute this task if' section is missing.

Workflows that we migrated over from V9 have correctly inherited the correct values and these can be modified. But for new jobs added to the same workflow, this property is unavailable.

Can anyone else confirm if they have the same issue as I'm not sure if this is something specific to our install or a problem with the product.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    GUI Timezones
In V10 you could go to settings in your GUI and select a timezone to display all times in that timezone.
In V12 this doesnt appear possible.

Useful if you have staff globally, monitoring jobs in particular timezones.

In V12 "SWAP_LINK_WITH_OBJECT" option doesn't work if you want to select multiple objects like it used to work in V10 as "SET_HOME_FOLDER".

Please refer the attached files for the details how it doesn't work in V10. Here are the file names. :
    - V10-Selecting_Multiple_Links_To_'SET_HOME_FOLDER'_option_available.png
    - V12-Selecting_Single_Links_To_'SWAP_LINK_WITH_OBJECT'_option_available.png
    - V12-Selecting_MULTIPLE_Links_To_'SWAP_LINK_WITH_OBJECT'_option_UNAVAILABLE.png

We raised it to support team They confirmed it will be fixed in Version 12.3 but the exact hotfix that will include this, isn't yet defined.

    Just a heads up.

When using Automic Web Interface 12.2.3.GA01 to export multiple job objects the "transfer" option does not appear.  in version 12.2.2.hf1 the option does appear when attempting to export the same job objects.   Broadcom support was able to reproduce this in-house and has forwarded my case to their Engineering team.

The missing "Details" for executions in Process Monitoring is still missing in V12.2 and the objects report does not have the info.   Does anyone have a workaround to get the Details ? (besides using the Java UI )
It is particularly useful for when object has FAULT_OTHER Start impossible.  Java UI provides the Details so we can work out what went wrong. I am not able to find the info in AWI.

Details of objects execution still missing V12.2

In WEB UI the "Details" option is integrated at the right top corner of most of the sub-tabs under 'process monitoring' and 'process assembly'.

One such example is attached from 'executions'.

Yeah. Mouse-over, while being a bit finnicky in AWI, usually works as well. There's a tool tip for that line which contains the full text.

    • You can drag the window but it has a limit by the UI. The last message line doesn't wrap up.
    • We asked Automic to suggest any work around but they confirmed till Version 12.3, to get the entire line max to max we can copy the line & paste it in notepad.

    Dear All,

We are using the feature "sendTo" / "senden an" in our transport mechanisms.

When right click on a folder, the "sendTo" option is not available. Is there any way to "enable" it, or is it a missing feature? On other objects this is available, but we would need it on the "Folder" object.

If it is missing, how can we get it implemented "quickly". We are planning to upgrade soon, but this is a feature that is heavily used and required by the customer.

    Here the screenshot from 12.3.

    Many thanks for your help,

(edit: oh great, now I see screenshots! Okay, judging by this, you are saying that this feature was available in the Java UI's "send to" but is missing in AWI, correct? Hm, Automic said they will duplicate all features of the Java UI to the AWI, but if something is missing people have still been refered to Ideation. Maybe a PM is reading this though and would comment).

    --- snip --- original response ---

    Hi,

What client are you using? Isn't "sendTo" a feature of the old Java client? That ship has entirely departed and is gone beyond the horizon I'm afraid. The web client (AWI) appears to group both export and "Transport" under the "Transfer" menu.

In both cases, I honestly don't know about, nor do I think that this is a feature that simply needs to be enabled. Rationale: You can't really transport folders in Automic. The transport mechanism, afaik contains information about the source folder of a particular object, but does not contain mechanisms for transporting folders with all their content and sub-folders.

Of course, the workaround would be to go into the folders and multi-select all objects, and transfer them via the context menu. I seem to be able to select various object types for transporting at once with the AWI, as long as no folders are part of the selection.

Nevertheless, one could imagine that it might be possible for Automic to add such functionality to the AWI (not Java client), which would traverse the folder (and subfolders) and add all objects in it to the transport case. The way to request UI features is to create an entry in the Ideation (in the menu on top of these forums). Wouldn't hold my breath for a fast implementation though, experience shows that this is more of a gentle process.

    Best regards,
    Carsten

These contain very good advise on asking questions and describing supposed bugs (no, you do not need to go to StackExchange for Automic questions, but yes, the parts on asking detailed, useful questions ARE usually relevant):

I will not respond to PM asking for help unless there's an actual reason to keep the discussion off of the public forums.

The variables UC_SENDTO and UC_SENDTO_ACT are still available in Client0000. And the AWI displays the entries like in the JavaUI. Have you adapted the variables?

    Hi Christoph,

yes they are available, but what we are missing is the "send to" when you right click on a folder object. On other objects it works as in the past.

Customer uses that to trigger Transport of a complete folder. Send-to will trigger a Job that starts a Transport workflow in another Client via callapi. The Folder Name is the Parameter for the Transport workflow then.

Good news, the execute option on HSTA Objects is back and available with 12.3.2.

You can find it opening the HSTA Object. There is a new button Apply Authorization Policy.

Missing capability in AWI available with 12.3.2.

Thanks to Automic developers bringing this capability into the AWI.

I would have rather said :

"Finally developper are bringing back very slowly in AWI the existing capabilities from the JUI as expected since AWI was introduced"

There is still missing some features that were very useful. It would have been easier maybe to tell developpers of AWI (and I have done it a long time ago) to look at the JUI, take notes of all the feature and start by reproducing the same feature in AWI. Then and only then start to make real improvement in the user interface management.

For exempel now it is not possible to open two objects if you are in a Process Assembly view and have open already an object. You need to close and save it , display back the Process Assembly view, select object(s) that you want to access simultaneously and CTRL+open them in separate frames. Easy isn't it ?

Simply allowing in a context menu an "open new Process Assembly frame" would have fix the problem. Same when you open a report or "executions" formely known as statistics.

Just some remarks from a grumpy old guy confined home for an unknown number of weeks =-)
