Subject: Java 8 Supportability Announcement for CA PPM

CA Technologies is continually working to improve our software and services to best meet the needs of our customers. In accordance with the CA Support Policy and Terms at CA Support Online, please consider this message as your written notification that we are discontinuing product updates related to Java® 8, including all Languages, all Releases and all Service Packs, beginning Wednesday, July 31, 2019. This will allow our Development organization to more effectively focus its resources on adding value to the next release of CA PPM.

Oracle® provides the Java 8 platform that is shipped with prior releases of CA PPM. Oracle has announced end-of-public-support for the version of Java used by CA PPM. Java 8 was provided with releases of CA PPM prior to and including version 15.5, which was released in September 2018.

Customers may continue to run and use Java 8 in production and non-production CA PPM environments after the End-of-Service Date. However, after Wednesday, July 31, 2019, CA Technologies will no longer provide any fixes, patches, service packs, updates, upgrades, programmatic changes, new features, or coverage for updated or new operating systems, browsers, or any additional components for Java 8. CA Support may submit potential security and vulnerability issues to Oracle Support for possible remediation, however customers will be required to get any remediation to such vulnerabilities directly from Oracle.

Customers can continue to contact CA Support (Level 1) after Wednesday, July 31, 2019, for troubleshooting of issues potentially related to Java 8 on an "as-is" basis if installed in conjunction with a still-supported CA PPM version. If a workaround cannot be determined, however, the problem will be deemed "irresolvable."

At this time, we encourage you to plan for the migration to CA PPM 15.5.1 as soon as it becomes available, so you can take full advantage of the features and enhancements this release has to offer. For CA PPM 15.5.1, we are planning to include Java 11, the latest version of Java provided by Oracle. Please note that Java 11 does not work and is not supported with CA PPM 15.5 or earlier releases. For information on CA PPM, please visit the CA PPM product pages at CA Support Online.

For information on upgrading your environment to CA PPM 15.5.1, and understanding your product licensing and entitlements, please contact your CA Technologies account management team.

Please note that the limitations described in this communication do not apply to CA PPM SaaS customers.

As CA Technologies would like to make your upgrade to CA PPM 15.5.1 as straightforward as possible, we offer the following:

    • The latest supported Version/Release of CA PPM, at no charge, as long as you have an active maintenance contract for CA PPM.  Documentation to help you prepare for your upgrade to the new Version/Release can be viewed on the CA PPM pages at CA Support Online.
    • Accelerated time-to-value when you engage CA Services to assist you with any or all parts of your upgrade.  CA Support complements our services team by providing upgrade support services to help ensure your success. Upgrade support services provides 24x7 access to CA Support and direct access during business hours to a designated support resource who will provide support on the End of Service version from upgrade start to finish, and for 30 days after your upgrade is complete.  Additional information can be found in Seven Strategies for Successful Upgrade  and Upgrade Services available on www.ca.com/services.   Please contact your CA account representative to receive a quote for such services.
    • Upgrade assistance from qualified local CA partners.  For more information and a list of partners in your area, please contact your local CA Channel Partner Group office.

If you have any questions regarding the support schedule, please contact CA PPM Technical Support at CA Support Online. Our Technical Support Lifecycle Policy is also available at this site.

Your success is very important to us, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with you.

    Thank you,
