    Hi!
We have been looking at story cycle time data much more carefully and frequently as we know that reducing cycle time will help us to manage WIP and increase Throughput.
We have been alerted by some teams that when you copy a story in Rally that it copies over the history for the original story which includes the "In-progress" date. And, when Rally calculate the cycle time for the copied story it uses the first "In-progress" date which is not correct.
Is this a bug in the product? Can Rally be programmed so that when a story is copied, the history does not get copied to skew the cycle time data?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Gene

Copying stories causes other issues as well.  We always recommend using the Work Item Template functionality to build templates with context and tasks as much as possible, so creating stories is streamlined and consistent. Many times when teams copy stories it is to carry over things like standard tasks and other content that can be included in a template instead.

    Thanks, Terry!
So, it sounds like Rally recommends using Work Item Templates rather than Copying Stories. So, why do you offer a Copy feature in the the product? What is the use case to want to use Copy?
    Sincerely,
