Where I've seen backups they have been prior to SQL 2012.
The preferred option was cold backup which the db people do not like and charge for it as well as for restores.The challenge I see on the Clarity side is when you do cold backup or restore you have to put Clarity down and stop the services.The thing is that you should start the services only when the db is up and running.When you do a restore you might need to refresh the db user.
