  • 1.  Log Analytics - Splunk and Gartner APM MQ 2014 report

Within the APM magic quadrant report for 2014, there was a couple of things I would like to see how CA Product Management and the community at large would respond to Gartner's findings.

In the case of 2014 Gartner APM report, how is CA readdressing and investing to turn these challenges into wins?

    1. CA APM dropping below the horizon (Ability to Execute)

Continuing the downward trend from 2013 with Cautions that include:

"CA's early leadership in this market has subsided due to the lack of investment and focus; while plans are in motion to reverse the situation, there is no short-term fix."

"Although the vender has a large, but dwindling, installed base, complexity in CA's offerings makes the tool challenging in the modern and complex Web application being built today"

    2.  Splunk - approaching opportunity or encroaching threat?

"Forty percent of references are using log analytics, and half of those are using Splunk. Several

companies are looking at open source to replace or augment their Splunk investments (often,

an Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana [ELK] stack)."

Researching Splunk, seems like Splunk has taken the swiss-army knife approach to CEM/APM/Infrastructure/SIEM in such that it can do anything and everything.  In several references found that AppDynamics has integrated with Splunk but not really sure how deep, or how wide the integration is.

In the same report there is mention of ITOM (IT Operation Management) and ITOA (IT Operations Analytics) improvements within the APM product platforms, lessening the importance of the pure-play vendors (such as Splunk).  Not really sure what features within CA APM or there CA products within context of ITOM and ITOA are present/improving to help stave off the coming hoards.
