  • 1.  Dollar Universe migration to a new server (node name change)

    Posted Aug 05, 2020 10:47 AM
    Hi All,

We are migrating all our $U servers to new servers, thus hostnames are changed.
We have currently $U v. 6.7.21 on Windows sersers, our target is v. 6.10 on new Windows servers.

We have been assisted by a Broadcom Consultant and the way we're doing this is this one:
1/ installation of target servers in 6.10 version
2/ export & import of our $U objects from the current servers to the new servers.

How will the hostnames be handled on target servers after the import?
e.g. Node of residence in all our MUs : will they be automatically changed to the target hostname? or should we change manually ? (hundreds of MUs) or is there mode automated way to do it in mass?

    Thanks for your help!
    Agnès

    Hi Agnes,

The Old Hostnames assigned to the Management Unit will be retained during export/import. Do you have a Central Repository (Dollar Universe Reference Server) where you maintain your $U Objects? If you have it will be easier to manage the changes that will be applied to the Management Units and deploy to all the Servers. And if NO Reference Server,  you need to repeat the process for all the affected Servers.

If you have hundreds of MU's, you can execute the listing and update using the command line facility of Dollar Universe:

To list all the Management Unit:
    uxlst mu mu=* FULL

    To update the Management Unit:
    uxupd mu mu=<MANAGEMENT UNIT> TNODE=<NEW HOSTNAME>

Generate the output in CSV format so you can easily modify the the Management Units with their new hostname.

    Best regards,

    Hi Agnes,

When you are performing export/import of Objects from one server to the other, all information will remain intact/un-change.

    You have 4 options:

    1. Manually update the Management Unit on each Node if you don't have a reference server.
    2. Update the Management Unit on the reference server and deploy the Management Units on all the Nodes.
    3. Issue the below commands
       a. on the DUAS server, set the $U environment
       b. on the bin directory, execute uxlst mu mu=* FULL output=<file>
       c. open the file on Excel to be able to see all the management units and the old hostnames

       d. to replace the management unit with the new hostname of DUAS, issue the command :
           uxupd mu mu=<management unit> tnode=<new hostname>

    Best regards,
