    Hey guys,

Just want to ask if it's safe to re-configure the polling interval of vmware & cisco_ucs probes? We're receiving similar alerts in regards to this KB:

    https://ca-broadcom.wolkenservicedesk.com/external/article?articleId=112072

Anyone know what's the possible implications of changing this parameters?

    Thanks,
    John

Implications are a greater time difference between data points and alarm generation.

Perhaps Jay's update in this other thread might provide some useful info:

    Hi,

Thanks for responding but I don't we have the same error messages. The kb that I attached is much more similar. But thank you for that insight though,.

    Hi John,

What version of the vmware probe are you running.  Also how many VM's are on that vCenter?  The vmware probe can collect a ton of data very fast.  When you put the probe on loglevel 3 or 5 it will tell you how many metrics and the poll time to gather it.  With a health vCenter and enough CPU and RAM for the vmware probe, I have see it gather 130,000 metrics on average of 52 seconds.

    Things to consider.

    • Make sure you are on the latest version of the VMware probe
    • How many vCenters are configured on that probe?
    • How many total VM's per vCenter?
    • There are some optimization settings on the vCenter that the VMware Admins can set for the API as well.  On the newer versions with a fresh install, these need to be tweaked.  They can do some Google Searches to find how to tweak those setting for products hitting the API.
    • Ensure you are running the vmware probe on a Hub as you are pulling alot of metrics and the Robot spooler isn't designed to handle that many messages.
    • On the VMware probe, make sure you set the MaxMem to 1Gb per 1000 VM's on the vCenter.  So in you have 6000 VM's you will need 6Gb of RAM set in the Raw Configure MaxMem setting.

Update on this. Apparently upon increasing the ram memory of the VM which is where vmware probe installed, alerts associated with Polling interval disappeared and data collection ranges from 1 to 5 seconds. Do you have any insight on how did it solved the problem? I didn't change any settings in vmware probe particularly the MaxMem setting
