  • 1.  BPS In vs Bits In Total Rate KPIs in DX PM

    Hello

Have some discussion regarding the values of graphics with these 2 network KPIs, but I think is a matter of bad interpretation.

Can you please help me with the interpretation / meaning of these 2 KPIs?

Bits per second In vs Bits In Total Rate?

Do you have any link / documentation on the subject?

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards
    Bruno Sousa

    Hi Bruno,

What is the particular question or interpretation that is being discussed?

Do the metrics look like they are showing bad or inconsistent data when viewed side by side?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Maybe the portal where the information on supported metrics and vendor certifications could help you realize what each parameter is and how its computed.

Whenever I have doubts, I use this portal and if I cannot find what I need I check it under Metric Families and Vendor Certifications pages on the DA administration.

If that doesn't answer your question either, you always have the options to enable debug on the DC to check how the values are extracted from the monitored devices and pushed into the DB. This is also the procedure I'm using to create custom vendor certifications or custom metrics.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the replies.

As far as I can see, the Bits In - Average Rate (image 1, below) seems to have the same values as the BPS In- Average (image 2, below)

I don't see any documentation on the meaning of Bits In - Total Rate, though (Image 3, below). Do you know how this KPI is calculated? Thank you.

At a five minute poll rate, using As-Polled 5 Minute Resolution, the Bits In and Bits In Total values are going to be the same data point we polled for the given poll cycle.

More information about Rate Metrics can be found here.

    Thank you Michael!

    The link was really helpfull.

    Regarding this KPI subject..

Do you know if it is possible to have a easy way to put a 3rd line in the graphic below where the 3rd line would represent Interface X KPI + Interface Y KPI?

    Thank you.

    Best regards

I don't know of a way to combine the metrics for two select interfaces into a single trend line. Closest option is some of the Views that provide the option to choose to see the metrics selected against the Device or Component level.
