    Hello Scott,

I will have the SCOM connector dev look into this.

    Thanks,

    Kiet

    Hi Scott,

    Here's the reply from dev.

There is nothing specific that needs to be done for add-on management packs, just follow the normal mapping process:

    1. Look at RAW data, see if it something that is already mapped, then add another <classify> entry to classify the new data type as a known class.
    2. If it is not mapped, identify a USM type this new type maps most closely to, extend the type and map the mandatory and correlatable properties, and any other property you can.

SOI’s USM schema can be referred here.

Unfortunately following the normal process does not work. Using extension policy does not work for “Classify” tag because the default policy has a wildcard “.*” that maps all  unknown SCOM CIs to Application class.

So it looks like we have to modify the master/default policy and customer will have to add the changes to new policy file after upgrading the connector.

Development is investigating the default policy and use of the wildcard .* and Application class. When there are many add on management packs there are excessive “projection sheets” for some CIs and the max projection sheets is 9 … so some CIs will never get created properly.

Mapping these add on management pack CIs to another class may or may not work --- if projection sheets it still over 9 for some CIs the CI will not be created properly and there will be alerts with name “unknown”.

    Thanks,
