    In-Place Upgrade

You can now use the in-place upgrade method to upgrade your server to the newer version. The in-place upgrade method upgrades the server to the same directory on your computer where the server was originally installed. This method does not require you to install a new instance of the server or database and migrate artifacts, global variables, and history data.

Note: The in-place upgrade method is applicable only for upgrading the server from r11.3 or higher.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Avinash

    Good Morning,

Please, I would like to know if it is possible to use the method “Upgrade the Server Using Migration Method”  when the target database is different from the original?  For example : Source is ORACLE and target database will be SQL SERVER ?

    Thx

    Hi,

When you are doing an in-place upgrade of DE from 11.3 to R12, the target DB cannot be changed.  The whole idea of in-place upgrade is to allow current setup to be upgraded, without changing current DE host and DB.

If you want to use a separate DB then you may want to look in to the migration feature of DE.

    Thank you,

Hi,  we are wanting to use the in place upgrade.  I've done a mock upgrade on a test scheduler.  but after the upgrade it seems it wiped the memory of what was running before the shutdown of the scheduler prior to the upgrade.   does it treat the first restart after in place upgrade as a cold start?  thank you.

    Hi,
In place upgrade will not wipe out the active generations.
Was there any problems when you upgraded the server.
