Unintended Workflow Impact when Closing Full-Detail Editors

Hello, lovely Rally Users, and Happy Friday!

I have a good thing and a not so good thing to report.
    Let's start with the good.

We recently released an update that ensures your list page context is remembered, when you navigate to a full-detail editor and back to your list view.
Previously the list page would refresh and re-render with all hierarchies collapsed, placing you back on row position # 1.
This big pain point has been addressed.
Your hierarchy expansion as well as your row position are now persisted. Yay to that!

Now onto the not so good thing.
When you open multiple full-detail editors in layers, closing the last full-detail editor will no longer take you back to the previous full-detail editor, but rather to your initial page of origin. This is an unintended outcome and one we will be addressing.

Let's walk through an example using our Portfolio Items page to make this more clear.

    Steps:

    • Open Portfolio Items page
    • Open full-detail editor for a work item. Let's say your lowest-level portfolio item
    • Click on the User Story collection tab of the full-detail editor
    • Open full-detail editor for a given User Story
    • Clicking 'X' on the full-detail editor for the User Story
    • You are now returned to your original position of the Portfolio Items page

The good part is that we are keeping your page context intact: Expanded hierarchies and row position are remembered.
Unfortunately, we negatively impacted the workflow when multiple full-detail editors are opened.

    Work Around:
Users can currently leverage the browser back button to get back to the previous full-detail editor.

We are working on a solution to address the issue described above.
Thanks for all your feedback and stay tuned for an update.

    Have a great weekend.

    Best,

    Andrea & The Product Team

    Hi Andrea,

Is it possible that this change also could have affected other parts of the UI? We have users saying that background pages are still visible when using the Full Detail Page, this just started happening last week, perhaps the week before. This is happening in Chrome and Firefox.

    Hi @Leah Pearlstein,

I am not sure if the issue is related to this change. Our support team is aware of this problem.
Please open a case with our Support Team, so they can notify you when a fix gets released.

    Best,

    Andrea

    Hi,

I'm seeing this trouble too. It is very confusing and bad looking.
Reported the problem via the feedback icon on the page.

Won't open the support case because we are still fighting the SSO login problem and definitely do not have more time to spend on the line with them.

    @Leah Pearlstein, @Neil Goodwin, @Inna Shulman,

we just released a fix addressing the issue where the Dashboard page was rendering partially through the full-page editor.

We hope to release a fix for the described workflow impact tomorrow, which will restore the previous workflow when closing the full-page editor.
I will update this post when the fix gets released.

Thanks and have a great evening.

    Best,

    Andrea

    Hello everyone,

I am happy to report that a fix for this issue has just been released to production. The old workflow has been restored.
You might need a hard browser refresh to pick up the changes.

    Enjoy your evening!

    Best,

    Andrea

I assume you mean the X button now takes you back to where you started?  if so, I think there is still a problem with this if you started off on a custom page that had a component such as a custom list.
On a custom list page, if I click a story to open that story in a full page editing mode, then click the X, navigation brings me back to an entirely different page that has the new UI.

Hi @Mitch Goldman, thanks for pointing this out.

We have come across a few edge cases that still need addressing. We'll try and get to these fixes soon.

    Best,

    Andrea
