We have a need on some of our Application Management Teams to store a code associated with each of the actual systems they support to assist in their billing back to each technology area. We have created a custom multi select field for them to use on the user stories, defects, and portfolio IDs. (Yes, using Lean Portfolio Management and funding teams vs. projects may eliminate this, but we're not there yet as a company, so we're trying to meet them where they are).
Trick is - the field has over 600 entries and they often need to add more. The team decided to add new entries as needed, but now that it has gotten so large, there have been some duplicates and it's become very administration heavy to keep up to date.
We were wondering if there is another solution for this field. Is it possible to create a custom field that links to an API for the values in the drop down? Any other ideas other teams have tried.
