  • 1.  Task re-estimation on split stories

    Posted Nov 15, 2017 04:26 PM

    Hello,

I have a question related to unfinished work for split stories. When splitting a story, if there are unfinished tasks they are carried over to the [Continued] story on the new sprint. These tasks have estimate, ToDo and Actuals.

What is the guidelines on what to do with these values at the beginning of the new sprint?

It seems to me, the Estimate should be updated based on the ToDo.

The ToDo field would have the same value as the Estimate.

The Actual field should be blank.

    Does it make sense?

    Thanks!

    Claudia

    Hi Claudia,

Thank you for this question. It comes up a lot in our cases. We recommend that the task are estimated again based on the work remaining. As you mentioned the To Do field would be based on the new estimate. I would recommend leaving the Actual field blank at the beginning so that it can be updated as the work is done. That way you can still compare the actual time worked during the iteration with new estimate. We have a couple of help articles that may be of interest for you. Both articles are very similar, but differ slightly depending on how your work is planned. I will include the links below.
