about siteminder saml setup

hi : all
about saml in siteminder ,we think ,a quest send to sp access gateway ,sp gateway check saml,if not authenticated,gatway send a saml request to idp according by partnership ,idp gateway then reply a assertion ,sp gateway  check it ,if correct and authenticated,then redirect to app acccording by proxyrule.xml and saml target service url,it seemed have less to do with app ,and app dont to  write code for interact with saml, do you agree us ?am i right ?
