    Hi,

I'm installing SiteMinder Policy Server r12.5 on a Windows 2012 R2 server. I have MS SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on the machine and I'm trying to have the Policy Server Configuration Wizard automatically set up a policy store for me on MS SQL Server.

So I check "Policy Store" on the "Choose Features" screen -> "Relational Databases" -> "Microsoft SQL Server (2005 or 2008)", and enter my DB information.

The problem is that no matter what Database Information I type in, when I click next I get a "Test database connection failed!" Error (see attached screenshot).

I'm new to SiteMinder so maybe I'm overlooking something basic. Looking for some tips. Thanks!

Policy server 12.5 is not supported on windows 2012R2.

You can go either 12.52SP1CR2 (or later) or 12.52SP2

Thanks for the quick responses! I've installed the Policy Server on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 machine, with MS SQL Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately still seeing the same issue. I've attached the database information below.

We see that Database Server Name is "(local)".

Did we try using a proper IP Address OR Hostname?

We see that DatabaseName is "SQL2008R2".

Did we create a Database instance with the name as SQL2008R2? See below screenshot. The Database name has to match a database instance.

Also did we try using the same connection details on a SQLEditor tool e.g. SQLDeveloper or RazorSQL - to verify the connection details and credentials work.

    Regards

    Hubert

Other than this I would suggest checking for firewall.

You can do this by performing telnet to database port from PS machine.

I've just tried both the IP address and the hostname of the box and neither worked. I'm able to connect to the database using SQL Server Management studio.

your database name is ReportServer$SQL2008R2 (as per SQL Studio screenshot).

but in config wizard we are providing only SQL2008R2

create a new database with the name as SQL2008R2.
