  • 1.  SCOM alarms - changing hostname

    Posted May 28, 2017 05:57 AM

    Hello,

We are running SOI 4.0 and scom 2012R2.

Alarms about health service (such as 'Failed to connect to computer' or health service heartbeat failure') always show the hostname as 'microsoft.systemcenter.healthServiceWatcher:computername'

I would like to remove the 'microsoft.systemcenter.healthServiceWatcher:'...

Where can i change it in the connector policy ?

    Thanks,

    Amit.

    Hello Britta,

    Thank you !!

I'm still having trouble finding the correct spot to make the change in the scom policy file.

I thought that 'EventClass extends="RunningSoftware" name="ManagementAgent"' was the correct location, but it does not effect the alarms...

    Hi Amit,

the name of the CI an Alert is attached to is always specified when the CI is created, not as part of the Alarm.

The Alarm only knows about the internal ID of the CI it shall be attached to.

Thus, modifying the Label of the CI has to be done when the CI is created, e.g. in the extensions of the Item classes (where you already looked).

It cannot be done in the Alert class.

You have to update the relevant Item class and then reload all the CIs to get the fresh label.

    Hi Michael,

I Still cannot find the correct place to make the change.

The alarm class is 'Management Agent'.

I tried Changing the 'EventClass extends="RunningSoftware" name="ManagementAgent"' section in the policy file, but it is not effecting anything.

    Any ideas ?

    Thank you,

    Amit.

    Hi Amit,

please send me your updated policy:  Michael.Boehm@ca.com

I will have a quick look if I see something "faulty".

If the Alert is attached to an object of the class ManagementAgent in the console, then this should be the proper class.

One thing you can check in addition:

When you select this CI, do you see more projections for it coming from other connectors, or is SCOM the only system reporting about this object?  You will see the class SCOM reports in this projection.
