Hola - we just found out that Broadcom is dropping CA SAM (Software Asset Manager) as of 12/31/2019.  Is there a transition plan for current customers using SAM?  Will there be an alternative software? Will we be transitioned to Aspera for support/licensing?

Hello Rebecca, This is Shiva Ambati here. I am the product manager for CA SAM software. We are not dropping support for CA SAM as of 12/31/2019. This is incorrect information. If you wish to discuss further on this, please reach out to me at shivakumarreddy.ambati@broadcom.com.

    Thank You,
    Shiva

So you will support but no longer sell? provide upgrades?  What the situation exactly for CA SAM after 12/31/2019?

How about upgrades in addition to monthly catalog releases? and for how long?  How long will Broadcom continue to support CA SAM if it is no longer selling/licensing SAM?  Until the end of 2020?  A little more information would be helpful for orgs that may need to plan longer term for budget if we will have to deploy a new product by end of 2020, for example.

Rebecca, I have responded to your email and asked for a suitable time to discuss over a call. Let us discuss over the call.

why not post here where all CA SAM customers have information? I'm assuming from this answer that you will *not* be selling anymore, nor providing software upgrades, nor providing support much longer past 12/31/2019.

    Hi,

I do note that we announced the end of support for the 4.2.x releases on this date - https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/product-content/status/announcement-documents/2019/ca-software-asset-manager-4-2-x-eod-announcement.html

As Shiva Kumar describes, this is specific to those older releases; the current 4.4.0 version continues to be sold and supported.

While we're discussing upgrades, however, please also be aware that PHP 7.0 itself end of service, so you may wish to look at the php 7.2 version while planning - see here: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/product-content/status/announcement-documents/2019/php-7-0-release-end-of-service-courtesy-reminder.html?r=2

It won't,no - 4.4 is available in PHP 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2 editions, and you download the one you need. You can also install the relevant PHP to go with it.
