17.2 installation under SQL 2016 - SDM sql client

  • 1.  17.2 installation under SQL 2016 - SDM sql client

    Hi,
we try to install SDM 17.2 under Windows 2016 Standard against SQL Server 2016 (on it's own server).
I would need a description what and how is to be installed for SQL on the SDM Server (primary).
Installing ssms.msi and native client allown do not bring sqlcmd.exe with them.

Is there any techDoc witch steps have to be done before installing CA Service Management?

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Any time I have installed SQL Server Management Studio it includes SQLCMD.EXE. I find it under the ..\Tools\Binn folder.

    Cheers,
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay,
the server itself is not the problem.
I was talking of sql client used by sdm installation.

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I was not talking about the MSSQL Server itself.

If you install SQL Server Managment Studio (SSMS) you get the client and the command line utilities.

If you don't want to install SSMS on the application server then you need download and install the SQL Client plus the SQL command line utilities. Make sure you put the folder in which the SQL command line utilities are installed is added to the PATH.

    Cheers,
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay,
    thanks at first.

I already had installed SSMS, but SQLCMD was not available after that.
Commandline utilities needed odbc, before installing MsSslCmdLnUtils.msi I had to install msodbcsql.msi

Now sqlcmd could be started but does not know whom to talk to. What has to be configured?

Is there any install guide for client with sql 2016?

Instead of problems with sqlcmd itself I could start sdm installation.
mdb seems to be created successfully.

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

My search of knowledge articles came up with this one:
    https://ca-broadcom.wolkenservicedesk.com/external/article?articleId=17125

It specifically refers to SQL Server 2014, but it would also apply to SQL Server 2016. I'll get that article updated.

    Regards,

    Karen

    Hi Karen,

many thanks for the link to the TecDoc.

    BUT

Shouldn't this be an information in installation-guide?

A link to the TecDoc would be ok but not as nice as a own chapter under prerequisites for an installation.

    Many thanks,

    Peter

    HI Peter,
yes, it would be better for the information to be integrated into the techdocs. I've flagged this up with the internal team.
    Regards,  Karen
