WEBI report not exporting with formatting

When creating a WEBI report and adding formatting options (mostly table coloring), I can't seem to get those to stick when exporting. When trying to export to Excel, most colors are lost or replaced by a very dull palette. I understand that has to do with excel 2003 having limited color palette options. When I try to export to Excel 2007, I get an error when trying to open it that it needs to be repaired. Doing so leaves all reports/tabs empty except for the rightmost tab which has its formatting intact.

 

Anyone else run in to this or know of a workaround? I've opened a support ticket as well but wanted to reach out to the community (and try out the new stuff ) !

Are you doing "Save As Excel" from the document-level or "Export as Excel" from the dataprovider/query?

I've tried when opening the WEBI in View mode (Document > Save to my computer as > Excel and Excel 2007) and while an Edit mode (Floppy > Save to my computer as > Excel and Excel 2007)

 

Both produce the same results:

     Excel : Data in tact, but mostly unformatted (no alternating row colors, wrong header color, etc)

     Excel 2007: Repairs on open, most or all data removed. On some reports the last tab will be intact with formatting, on others it is blank as well.

Does the same behavior occur if you use the WEBI Rich client as opposed to Infoview?

Hmm, hadn't tried that, never really bother with the Rich client. Will give it a shot and report back

Edit: Same issue. This is what it says when it tries to repair:

Excel completed file level validation and repair. Some parts of this workbook may have been repaired or discarded.

Removed Records: Worksheet properties from /xl/workbook.xml part (Workbook)

What version of Excel are you using, 2003 or 2013,  just to make sure.

Office 2013 I dont believe is part of supported releases of Office for Export yet. I believe 2010 is atmost what we see right now.  I'll check on the same and get back to you.

Was hoping it'd be something simple, but I just had a coworker try that is on 2010 and he has the same issue (gets repair message, then ends up blank)

This is using the OOTB vertical table template in WEBI, but I've tried manually changing the colors and such but the issue persists.

I am able to open the XLS version without any problem and the formatting stays intact.

 

You receive the error message on both the XLSX and XLS versions?

The error is only on the xlsx (2007) version. The xls version opens without issue, but does not retain all formatting. It only has the color on the header row (but not the same color as the WEBI), but the alternating data rows are all white. They should be alternating between white and light blue, but the problem happens even when changing the colors.

CABI r3 is limited to the colors it supports.

 

In addition, there is actually a limitation from RDL (Report Definition Language) - the language used for converting WEBI documents to Excel.

 

Some other known limitations are:

 

- Not all graphs are supported

- The format of all lines is the one applied to the first line of the report

- Blank columns are supported

- Blank lines are not supported unless directly under the column header

- Titles and comment must be inserted inside a text box; only one format of font can be applied per text box

- Text boxes must not overlap.

I understand that the XLS is limited to the color palette of Excel 2003 hence the small color selection, but my understanding was that the 2007 was supposed to allow for more precise formatting, yet it won't open. Does the XLSX file open for you?

No it does not - I am using Excel 2010

I have an update on this

 

1) InfoView colors are not truly getting exported the same way to Excel (2010 / 2013)  -->  We can reproduce this in house both with CABI 3.3 SP1 and  3.3 SP2

 

2) Save As Excel 2007  results in corrupt file -->  I can reproduce this with  CABI 3.3 SP1   but not with CABI 3.3 SP2

 

3) With CABI 3.3 SP2 ->    Save As Excel 2007 is preserving the colors from basic tests I did.

 

CABI 3.3 SP2  can be downloaded from   ftp://ftp.ca.com/caproducts/CABI/CABI-3.x/boeXIR3_SP7/Windows/    incase you want to give this a shot.

Thanks, we just recently updated our BOXI so I thought we were current, looks like the new version came out about a month ago. Will give that a try and report back if that fixes the issue

We did test the newer patch in DEV and that seems to have resolved the issue. It has not yet been scheduled to be pushed to PROD yet but I expect that to solve the problem.
