We are getting ready to move towards the installation and implementation of Configuration Automation. For our agency this is a political lift as we have to deploy the agent across a centralized data center on all of our servers to obtain the data feed we need to make the system function.

If we have to use the agent and there is no other alternative way to obtain the same data then that is the solution and will continue forward with that understanding. But as of now we have SCCM deployed across these systems. As well as use a community string to funnel data into Solar Winds for health monitoring purposes.

Is there anyway to leverage these data sources (or others) or are we strictly restricted to using the agent if we want all of the functionality?

    Appreciate your insight/help.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jordan,

It depends what you are trying to achieve, what data you are looking to gather during the discovery.
There is a blueprint discovery that gets details of the applications installed and then there is network discovery gateway (NDG) where it gets a finite set of data.  The blueprint discovery will use the  CCA Agents (or SSH, but for performance, agent is the way to go) and the NDG uses all agentless (WMI, SSH, SNMP (if applicable))

Here is some posts that should explain the differences more:

If you can provide what type of data results you are expecting, we can better define what is needed for your environment

    Regards,

    Thank you!

Do you have documentation available that outlines recommended system resources, ports, etc for deployment of the agent?
