  • 1.  CCA to CMDB (SDM) Integration

I am making this post to ask the community to share some knowledge / issues regarding CCA to CMDB integration.

What infrastructure are you using? To what point is the integration customizable?

Does anyone plan on moving to 12.8 SP3 right away?

We made some customizations to migrate from our previous database to CA CMDB.

For instance: We modelled Operating System as an attribute of the server, instead of a CI and relationship.

Also, the operating system is not a text field, but a lookup referencing a custom table that we update manually.

This made the Visualizer view of relationships more clear and understandable and our reports more concise.

Also, we have constraints regarding on which CI's and attributes are modelled and controlled. After spending some time trying to integrate CCA and CMDB in the current CCA version, we had some issues and decided to update CMDB manually.

With the new release of CCA 12.8 SP3, I am wondering if we can customize that integration to meet the constraints we have or if we should try creating a custom process using the traditional CCA > CABI > CMDB approach.

    Hi Erico,

I've tested the new CCA to CMDB integration of the CCA r12.8-SP3 beta version and it seems very promising.

I've experienced one to many problems with Catalyst and I'm relieved that it will be dropped from now on.

In the past I've used the CABI integration but it was very time consuming.

The new CCA to CMDB integration is simple, easy to use and to configure, and most importantly it makes sense by using CMDB's existing GRLoader.

You do lose the possibility to integrate with third-party CMDBs though, like you could do with Catalyst.

It does seem to be configurable enough to meet the requirements of different CMDB models when it comes to new attributes and attributes values' logic/composition, but you may have to work the GRLoader's XML afterwards for for situations like the one you've described regarding the Operating System CI not being created but instead a Server CI attribute.

Hi Tiago, where I find documentation about the details of this integration?

CA Configuration Automation - Source Home - CA Configuration Automation - 12.8.3 - CA Technologies Documentation

Then use the search on the left to filter out (SDM or CMDB) or optionally expand the menu to the corresponding section(s)
