  • 1.  CA APM Agents for Linux on Power Server environments...?

    Posted May 02, 2018 04:36 PM

I am with the IBM Power server team working with mutual customers to deploy Linux on Power Servers.  CA APM is key to IT infrastructure management.  Could we have a conversation about CA APM Agents for Linux on Power Server environments...?

Hello johnsokc, I see that you've had a chat with one of our Support Engineer through the Chat Support Channel earlier, and was informed that Power Server is currently yet to be certified based on the latest CA APM 10.7 Compatibility Guide.

I understood from the conversation that you were instructed to submit an Enhancement Request through the CA APM Community Ideas page. Please confirm if this is the ER you are trying to submit, and we will have it moved to the correct Ideas category accordingly.

    Thanks,

    Aryne

There is an existing Enhancement Request on APM Agent Support on Power PC, you may want to vote it up if this is what you are looking for:

APM agent should be supported on Power PC with RHEL 64bit urgently

    Hi,

Any news for this RFE / support for Linux on Power?
    We'd need this urgently for RHEL7 & RHEL8 ppc64le.

    Hi

I have 10.2 EPAgents running on ppc64le, by downloading the correct jre, and placing it in the java directory - no other changes were needed to the EPAgent or its config.

    /opt/caapm/java/jre/bin> ./java -version
    java version "1.8.0_191"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 8.0.5.25 - pxl6480sr5fp25-20181030_01(SR5 FP25))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.9, JRE 1.8.0 Linux ppc64le-64-Bit Compressed References 20181029_400846 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)
    OpenJ9   - c5c78da
    OMR      - 3d5ac33
    IBM      - 8c1bdc2)
    JCL - 20181022_01 based on Oracle jdk8u191-b26

I got the JRE from the internet, replaced the java version installed alongside the 10.2 EPAgent, and it works correctly.

I am also using websphere agents on the same server to monitor websphere liberty profiles with the NoRedef profile cleanly.

I did experiment with the IA agent - the problem was the Tanuki wrapper not supporting the OS type.  Tanuki do have the ppc64le wrapper available on their website, and I did experiment with downloading the community edition and putting it into the IA agent in a sandbox and did get the IA agent to start and run epaplugin scripts as an experiment only.  I look forward to having this in a supported format also, as I am currently running a 10.2 EPAgent with the ppc64le jre as mentioned above to monitor in our environment pending this being supported and available.
