Need some help here. Using Introscope Agent PP for Web Server v9.5.5, wanted to understand how I can config it to monitor RPWS (Apache). It's using SSO so not sure how I can extract perf metric using the following syntax under the file "WebServerConfig.xml"

    <WebServer Type="Apache" Enabled="true" Protocol="TLS" ServerURL="https://xx.xx.xx.xx:50190" DisplayName="hostname-Apache Security" Mode="Permissive"/>

Thanks in advance for any help

    Cheers

    Manish

This might be relevant (though IIS is mentioned)....

    Q. I have an IIS web server with Windows Integrated Authentication turned on. Can the CA APM for Web Servers monitor this server?

    A. No, the CA APM for Web Servers cannot monitor an authenticated web server. CA APM for Web Servers does not provide an option to specify the username and password to connect to the web server. To monitor these web servers, the stats page can be selectively given anonymous access to the CA APM for Web Servers.

CA APM for Web Servers FAQs - CA Application Performance Management - 10.5 - CA Technologies Documentation

Not sure if that is possible with the current design

And also all DNS resolution problem possibilities have been exhausted. I am guessing you checked and this is not the issue,

yeah, DNS is not the issue. Wondering if there is a different way to monitor RPWS compared to reg Web Servers.

Also, where can get the latest Web Server PP to work with 10.1?

    Thanks

    Manish

So, if the Reverse Proxy WebServer requires authentication...........does CA not have a solution to monitor it?

Trying to get you an answer without much luck. What types of authentication are supported?

Well, I kind of need assistance figuring out how (if at all possible) monitor a revers proxy web server using CA APM Introscope.

    Thanks

Thanks Manish. I just posted a second note in the APM Technical  internal group as well as sent this to APM Support list  this morning. If there is no response, then working with your pre-sales team or opening a case are the two options

    Thanks

    Hal

    Hi Manish,

I suppose you followed the steps in Installing and Configuring CA APM for Web Servers - CA Application Performance Management - 10.5 - CA Technologies Docum… . We currentyl don't support authenticated access. The only way is to allow access from the server that the web server extension is running on in httpd.conf.

    Ciao,

    Guenter

I am already doing Web Server Monitoring w/ the Introscope Agent PP remotely so that's not a worry. I guess it would be good if APM had a solution for Reverse Proxy Web Servers. Perhaps an "IDEA"?

    Ciao Ciao

Sounds like an idea Manish. Maybe PM can then weigh in.

    Hal

Is there a way to directly convert/transfer this discussion to an idea w/n the APM Community?

    Dear Manish:

I can convert a question to a document or discussion, not an idea. So your best bet is to make a new idea and refer to this thread. I will vote for it when it comes out . (Plus you can add a link here. )

I've opened up CA Support case # 00738276 and will go through them to get the enhancement/idea submitted (as per CA Services direction).

Thanks everyone for you help on this. I will provide and update once I get the case moving in the right direction.

    Cheers

    Manish

An IDEA has been created and submitted.

Please go vote "UP" on that idea.
