I have little experience with this and was wondering if someone had a write-up detailing the steps.

I am the author of the fieldpack.  The docs are included and are very complete.  It will run fine on Windows if you use Activeperl, though you may need to find a few extra libraries.  I'd recommend a Linux box as it'll setup a little more easily.  Install ActivePerl and then you *might* need to use PPM to add a few extra packages if it tells you things are missing.  Linux will be easier.
