Have you already had a look at data area YBRTPXA (introduced with 2E 8.1.SP2, and slightly changed in 8.5) and the possibilities it offers? There had been some nice enhancements with the Toolkit compile pre-processor at that time among others to define own exit programs to be automatically called before or after compilation. Perhaps this approach can assist you in applying your automatic changes to the sources.
