TECH TIP: Windows 10 Connectivity Failure with the Broker

Problem: Upgrade to Windows 10 now the client is unable to connect to the Harvest Broker.

Most likely the problem is that the DNS server is not being passed the proper information to resolve

the Harvest Broker IP address for Workbench to make the network connection.

Windows 10 was designed to be a more secure windows installation and by this nature certain

network connection settings are by default disabled.

There are basically two(2) work arounds to correct for this problem.

    1. Modify the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file to include the IP address and the Harvest Broker name.

    or

    2. The client should investigate the WINS settings to confirm the following are enabled:

       a. Open the Network and Sharing Center.

       b. Click on the network interface you use to access the network (for ex: it can be ethernet connection or wireless).

       c. Click properties of the ethernet status.

       d. Click the Advanced option in the properties of IPV4 and select the DNS tab and confirm setting is enabled:

    DNS_Tab

Next select the WINS tab and confirm following:
