  • 1.  Tue Tip: Eclipse Kepler getting java.lang.NullPointerException

    Posted Mar 04, 2014 01:26 PM

    Problem:

    Have R12.1 SP3 64 bit SCM Client installed, 64bit Eclipse Kepler 4.3 installed, 64bit JVM 1.7
installed, Dependencies and eclipse plugin installed.

    Workbench works correctly.

The user can login, set context, and navigate the SCM repository in Eclipse, but
when the user tries to commit,  the user gets java.lang.NullPointerException.

Usually this error indicates an install problem, but I checked and the user has
64bit SCM Client installed, 64bit 1.7 JVM installed, then the user installed the eclipse
dependencies and then installed the eclipse plugin. So from an install and setup perspective I
    saw nothing wrong.

    Environment:
    Windows: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit OS

    CA Harvest (from Workbench): 12.1.03.309

CA Harvest Plugin (from inside Eclipse): 12.1.3.309a

    Eclipse itself:

Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers.

    Version: Kepler Service Release 1
    Build id: 20130919-0819

    C:\>java -version
    java version "1.7.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_51-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.51-b03, mixed mode)

    Solution:

Check and deselect the */git/* option in

Windows-> Preferences ->Team -> Ignored resources from the eclipse IDE.

Note: This issue is already resolved in R12.5.

    Hi Dave,

We cannot find any 64-bit client, where can we download the client?

    Regards,

    Derek

What version of Harvest do you have?  And what operating system are you using for Eclipse?

SCM v13.0.3 can be downloaded from the "Download Center" on  the http://support.ca.com website.  For older versions, see if you can find the ISO image containing the Harvest installation software.  The 64-bit client will be included there. If you need an older version, you should open a support case so that we can help to get you the version you need.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks
