  • 1.  Easy way to update Task Finish Date after Actuals are posted to it?

    Hello All -

    Issue: On a Project, after a team member assigned to a task tracks time against that task, the Finish Date of the task becomes locked:

    Question:     How do we easily modify task finish dates for tasks that have time tracked to them?  How do we unlock the finish date field also?

    When time is entered the  assignment and task sort of change from planning mode where you can change the dates and ETC freely to tracking mode where the ETC is semilocked for the duration of the task and assingment. Being locked means you cannot change the end date to a later date. That is because the system does not know if  you want to redistribute the existing ETC or add days with the same daily ETC. Normally you should be able to change the end date to an earlier date, because then the system redistributes the existing ETC over the new unworked time.

    You can change the end date of a task to a later date. when there are actuals if you first remove all the ETC from the assignment. After you have changed the end date you can reaply the ETC on the assingment.

    Another way is to set the duration to fixed. Then you can change  the end date to a later date. What you will be doing is adding days without any ETC to the end. When the duration is fixed it will not change when you do autoschedule.

    The finish date is unable to be modified when the ETC for that task is at zero. You have to add ETC and save it before you can modify the finish date.

    I stand to be correct. What I wrote was for how it used to work in OWB.

    Put some ETC on the task or assignment and you can change the finish date to a later date. After you have done that modify the ETC again.
