I do not think there is a supported way to do that. Updating the database table to change the status is definitely not going to a good solution as that might create orphan records, related to that Idea. Hence, I would not say that you can bring back the idea in prior states where user again can submit the same for approval process.

I have a custom workflow built to convert Idea to Project through certain approval. One of my user clicked on "Convert" button manually rather than clicking on "Submitted for Approval". Now the idea shows as "Converted" and the field became non editable. Is there a way that I can reverse the status so that user can go through the happy path ?
