Welcome to the Clarity PPM SaaS Transition Blog series. This blog series provides customers updates regarding the Clarity PPM SaaS transition to the Google Cloud Platform™ (GCP). This is the third post of the series.  In the first post, Broadcom provided an overview of the transition process and discussed the benefits of transitioning to GCP. In the second post, Broadcom focused on pre-transition activities customers and Broadcom will perform before any of the Clarity PPM environments are transitioned to GCP.

In this post, the focus will be on the transition activities customers and Broadcom will perform during the transition to the GCP platform.

    Activities Conducted by Broadcom

    • Broadcom will back up the Clarity PPM data and configuration files from the customer's production environment and use it to perform transition activities. This activity will not impact any of the customer environments.
    • Broadcom will upgrade the backed up copy of Clarity PPM to the latest GA version.
    • Broadcom will refactor that data that was backed up from Oracle to PostgreSQL. The data includes:
      • Clarity PPM data
      • Clarity PPM's configurations such as
        • NSQL lookups
        • NSQL based portlets
        • GEL Scripts with SQL
        • Jaspersoft content
          • Studio reports
          • Input queries

    • Broadcom will apply the latest version of the supported add-ins to the GCP environment.
    • Broadcom will transfer all data and configuration files to GCP by using a secure channel.
    • After the transition is complete, Broadcom will perform environmental testing. Some key activities include ensuring:
      • The environment is accessible
      • The Process Engine is operational
      • The out-of-the-box jobs and reports are executing as expected

    • The Broadcom team will configure the current URL from your selected non-production environment to the new GCP instance.
      • Note: This will require a minor downtime for customers to transition the URL.
    • The assigned  Broadcom PoC will notify customers that the non-production environment is ready for testing. The PoC will provide customers the following information:
      • Clarity PPM URL
      • Jaspersoft URL
      • SFTP location
      • SSO information (if applicable)
      • OData URL (if application)
    • The PoC will work with customers to triage reported issues and submit them for resolution.
    • The selected non-production instance in the legacy data center will be deleted 30 days after the successful transition to the GCP environment.

    Activities Conducted by Customers

Once the Broadcom PoC informs customers that the selected non-production environment is ready for testing, customers should immediately begin testing activities.
Customers should focus on the initial testing activities on determining if there are any application errors or general database integrity issues. Next, customers can focus on performing typical role-based activities such as creating projects, performing typical project activities, submitting timesheets, creating resources, executing processes and reports, etc. This test should be similar to the customers' regular regression testing plan. Remember that it is just a suggested list of activities. Customers need to create a detailed testing plan to ensure you thoroughly validate the environment.

Some key points to remember are:

    • Although the primary Clarity SaaS URL will not change, some shared service URLs will change. The Broadcom PoC will provide customers the following information:
      • Jaspersoft Advanced Reporting
      • SFTP Hostname and passwords
      • OData URL
      • SSO information
    • All credentials will remain the same as the previous environment with the exception of SFTP credentials.
    • If customers are leveraging key exchange for SFTP authentication, Broadcom will migrate all existing keys to the new SFTP service.
    • Customers will need to update the following client tools with the new information that is provided by the Broadcom's PoC:
      • Jaspersoft Studio Client connection information
      • BI tools leveraging the OData service
      • SFTP Clients and integrations
    • Customers are responsible for functional and data testing which includes but is not limited to the following:
        • Create and save a new application, asset, product, idea, project, program, portfolio, timesheet, portfolio.
        • Test any other modules that you are using.
        • Open Clarity PPM Studio, open objects, manipulate associated attributes or create new attributes, and then save your changes. Test all objects by opening and saving them within the respective object.
      • Test all your customizations such as:
        • Reports
        • Lookups
        • Portlets
        • GEL scripts
      • Test Integrations by using the new URL.
      • If customers use SFTP for any integrations, test the new solution.

    • If customers have SSO authentication enabled in the environment, then work with the PoC to enable a deep link between the identity management (IdP) solution and Clarity PPM in the new infrastructure.
    • Once customer testing has completed, please provide the PoC an approval and acceptance of the successful transition of the non-production environment

    Issue Resolution Process

If customers encounter any issues during testing, please track each item on the issue tracker spreadsheet template provided by the Broadcom PoC.  The issues will be triaged and remediation results will be updated in the spreadsheet.

Thank you so much for this, this is a great help.

As I was not with the company when we started using Clarity, I am not sure exactly which of our objects, attributes, lookups, processes etc. are our own creation and which are out of the box. I have tried to find a list or table somewhere that will show me everything for each area that is out of the box, that way I will know what we need to focus on in this transition, however I have not been able to find anything. Can you point me in the right direction of where something like this is listed?

We would greatly appreciate this assistance :)

    /Pia

There is a job called PPM Customization Discovery Analysis and if you are on 15.7.1 you have a report also called Customization overview which will give you that information
