Please elaborate on "we cannot get BGP alarm". What exactly that means?

From one-click console, we cannot see Huawei devices BGP alarms

Great elaboration... Are the traps being sent? Do you have the devices modeled in Spectrum? Do you see any unknown alerts on the device, if it is modeled in Spectrum?

You did not provide any good explantation on the problem that you have.

not set any traps. All these devices are modelled in the spectrum and can get other alarms. Unknown alerts I haven't come across.

please find below screenshot for your reference.

In cisco devices which are configured with BGP, we can get this table filled with BGP relationships and also get BGP neighbour down alarms as well.

but in Huawei devices where the customer has configured BGP above table is empty and also no alarms on BGP down. We have tested this with two Huawei devices locally and manually down BGP peer to get the alarm but no alarm.

The customer has more than 5000 Huawei devices modelled in the spectrum and BGP alarms are much needed. Please help me to get this done if you have any experience on the same.

    Thanks,
    Uchira.

The view you're showing up here does not have anything to do with BGP alarming.

BGP Alarming is achieved using either SNMP Traps sent by the devices or by integration with REX with IP Routing Manager.

The view that you are presenting is displayed on the fly, whenever you're navigating it. That one is ModelType specific. So they way to go for Huawei, is to check if the device is certified in Spectrum. If it is, you should see what information is available for it. If it not certified, most probably you should submit a certification request.

    Urchira,

Spectrum supports the standard BGP4 and the Cisco BGP mibs for the BGP Manager.

    Reference https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/it-operations-management/spectrum/10-4-2/managing-network/modeling-and-managing-your-it-infrastructure/modeling-your-network-manually/how-to-model-manually-in-the-universe-topology/add-network-devices-to-universe-topology-views/bgp-peer-session-monitoring.html

Since you do not see information in the BGP Peer Table subview, I suspect the device does not fully support the BGP4 mib.

Please verify by querying the bgpPeerTable on the device using MIB Tools.

If the device does not fully support the BGP mib then we cannot monitor BGP in Spectrum.

    Hi,

Thank you very much for the information.

Please guide me on how to enable all devices with bgp4 app with this polling interval at once.

    Thanks,
    Uchira.

    Hi,

Huawei 109 has bgp4 application model and I change the polling interval value to 120. But still, I cannot see the BGP peer table updated as per the 10.4.2 tech docs link you provided.

Customer is running on spectrum 10.4. can you help me with this, please?

    Thanks,
    Uchira.

    Uchira,

From the look of it, the device support some of the BGP mib but not all. The device must support the entire BGP mib especially the peer table.

You will need to contact the vendor and ask them why the peer table is not populated.

    Hello Joe,

    Thanks for the response,

if a vendor sends another MIB containing BGP4 do we need to certify again with that particular MIB?

    Thanks,
    Uchira.

    Uchira,

If the vendor does not fully support the standard BGP or Cisco BGP mib but has their own vendor specific BGP mib, Spectrum would need to be certified to use that BGP mib for the BGP manager.

    Hello Joe,

Is there any possibility to get a BGP alarm by creating a subview table?

    Thanks,
    Uchira.

    Urchira,

Creating the subview will not result in getting BGP alarms.

The underlying code is not configured to support the Huawei  BGP mib. The BGP code only supports the standard BGP4 and Cisco BGP mibs.

You can create a custom SpectroWatch on the Huawei  BGP mib attributes to alarm as needed.

The code would have to be updated to use the Huawei  BGP mib. If you wish to request the code be updated to use the Huawei  BGP mib, please log into https://community.broadcom.com/home and click on the Ideation link to submit your request.

    Hello Joe,

If there is a BGP4 it should work as you mention, We have discovered Huawei AR 109 routers and it has BGP4. but we cannot see the BGP alarms.

    Uchira,

As we discussed earlier in this thread (post #9 and #10), the vendor does not fully support the standard BGP4 mib. The peer table is empty.
